The Trial of the Robot
A Theatrical Activity on Artificial Intelligence
Activity Overview
In this activity, students stage a mock trial of a robot that secretly did a student's homework. Some students were happy, but the teacher was upset. The class takes on roles as judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers, the robot, and the audience. Through role-play, they debate whether the robot or the humans who built it are responsible, learning that AI is a tool created by people.
After the trial, each student designs their own imagined robot, combining creativity with reflection about responsibility. The activity builds critical thinking, communication, empathy, and AI literacy and ends with a clear key message: "AI depends on humans. We must use it responsibly."
